Fused Zirconia-Corundum Bricks
PRODUCT PARAMETERS
Description
Fused Cast Zirconia-Alumina Refractory Brick
Fused cast Zirconia-Corundum brick (AZS brick), also known as fused cast zirconia-alumina brick, is a high-quality refractory product made from industrial alumina powder and selected zircon sand as main raw materials. It is produced by melting the materials in an electric arc furnace at 1800-1900℃, casting the mixture, and then annealing and cooling it. The product name AZS comes from the abbreviation of its three main chemical components: Al₂O₃ (A), ZrO₂ (Z), and SiO₂ (S).
The product mainly consists of a eutectic of corundum (α-Al₂O₃) and zircon (ZrO₂), as well as a glassy phase filling the crystal spaces. It possesses excellent properties such as dense structure, low porosity, strong resistance to glass melt erosion, and minimal contamination of the glass melt. Based on the zirconium oxide content, it is divided into three grades: AZS-33#, AZS-36#, and AZS-41#. Based on the casting method, it is divided into four types: ordinary casting (PT), inclined casting (QX), quasi-shrinkage-free casting (ZWS), and shrinkage-free casting (WS), which can meet the differentiated needs of different parts of the glass melting furnace.
Product Features
- Excellent Resistance to Molten Glass Erosion
Taking AZS-41# as an example, the erosion rate is ≤1.3mm/24h (1500℃×36h, ordinary soda-lime glass). The higher the zircon content in the product, the denser the formed zircon-rich layer, and the stronger the erosion resistance.
- Minimal Contamination of Molten Glass
Utilizing an oxidation melting process, there is almost no carbon contamination, and the bubble precipitation rate is low (AZS-41#≤1.0%). Suitable for high-quality glass melting furnaces such as those for electronic glass and photovoltaic glass.
- Dense Structure and Extremely Low Porosity
Apparent porosity ≤1.0~1.2%, bulk density ≥3.75~3.95g/cm³, effectively preventing molten glass penetration.
- High-Temperature Structural Stability
Initial glass phase precipitation temperature ≥1400℃, load softening temperature ≥1700℃, excellent creep resistance at high temperatures.
- Refractoriness > 1700℃
Suitable for key parts of various ultra-high temperature thermal equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How to choose between grades 33#, 36#, and 41#?
Select the grade based on the glass furnace operating conditions and usage requirements. 33# has the lowest zirconium content, offering high cost-effectiveness, and is suitable for general parts such as the upper structure; 36# has an even lower glass phase content, suitable for high-requirement parts such as hot spots on the furnace walls; 41# has the highest zirconium content (40~44%), offering the strongest erosion resistance and the lowest bubble precipitation rate, specifically designed for the most demanding core and critical parts such as flow channels and furnace sills.
- What are the differences between the four casting methods: PT, QX, ZWS, and WS?
PT is ordinary casting, with shrinkage cavities located below the casting port, suitable for non-critical parts; QX is inclined casting, with shrinkage cavities offset at the lower end, mainly used for furnace wall bricks; ZWS is quasi-shrinkage-cavity-free casting, essentially eliminating shrinkage cavities, resulting in high density; WS is shrinkage-cavity-free casting, completely eliminating shrinkage cavities, resulting in the densest material, used for the most severely eroded parts such as flow channels and furnace sills.
- What precautions should be taken when using fused zirconia-corundum bricks?
It should be noted that ZrO₂ undergoes a phase transformation and volume change around 1000℃. Strict thermal regimes must be followed during installation and furnace drying. Additionally, during installation, ensure that the direction of the shrinkage cavities is perpendicular to the eroded surface of the molten glass to extend service life.
- Does the product support customization?
Yes. Fused zirconia-corundum bricks of different shapes and sizes can be customized according to customer drawings. Please contact our sales engineers for details.
